MUSIC & ME
Music gave me a voice long before I felt confident using my own.
From an early age, I wanted to express my opinions, ideas and experiences, but a speech impediment often made that difficult. Growing up with a stammer meant that something as simple as speaking could become a daily source of frustration. Years of speech therapy helped me gain greater control over my speech, but discovering hip-hop changed something much deeper — it gave me confidence.
Rap became the place where the hesitation disappeared. The moment an instrumental starts and the record button is pressed, the stammer takes a back seat. Through rhythm, writing and performance, I found a way to communicate with a freedom I hadn't experienced before.
That connection is one of the reasons hip-hop means so much to me. It isn't simply a genre of music; it's a form of expression that can transform the way people see themselves and the world around them.
Hip-hop gave me the confidence to be heard, and now I use that voice to tell my story, share my perspective and create music with something genuine to say.
Hip-hop didn't invent everything. It reinvented everything.
